Golf Tourney Report

Six (6) avid golfers showed up at Fairfield golf club, about 30 minutes from St. Louis in Illinois on Thursday, 9 October, 2008.  We fielded 2 teams of 3 each, and the scramble was on.  The course was in beautiful shape, and the weather couldn't have been more perfect.

After the dust settled, it was determined that the team of Mike Butcher, Jim Brown, and Kent Fairchild beat out the team of Dutch Homan, Don Bondzio, and Chuck Fleming by a couple of strokes, thus earning the bragging rights for two years, until next reunion.  A delicious lunch was awaiting us, and washed down with quantities of brew, bringing an end to a delightful day, and great company.

This is your final controller.”

The reunion in St. Louis was a great success.  Renewing old friendships and meeting new friends is what it is all about.  Could not have asked for better weather, great sea stories, lots of laughs and interesting tours.  For this I thank everyone who participated.

If you haven’t heard by now, the next reunion will be in 2010 in

San Antonio Texas.

Will be looking forward to seeing all of you with great enthusiasm and ready to have great time.

Shipmates stepped up and assumed the vacated positions, Dutch Homan, Secretary, Don Bondzio, Historian, Tom McMahon, Chaplain and Easy Ed Brown, Treasure.

My sincerest appreciation.

For those of you that will be renewing your dues, please send them to Ed Brown.  His address:

Following the reunion Joyce and I left St. Louis for Ohio to visit our daughter and family, and Great Grandson born 9/11.  What a treat!!!

On way home took the scenic route thru Kentucky, Tennessee and Arkansas to enjoy the fall foliage.  Unfortunately it was a few days past, but still an awesome site.  Arrived home the first week in November.  Ahhhhh!!! Our own bed and shower.

Must apologize to all for not getting this out sooner.  Will do better in the future.

Hope y’all had a festive Thanksgiving, a Merry Christmas and a “HAPPY NEW YEAR.”

"The Hand Salute" versus the customary "Hand over the Heart" when paying tribute to the American Flag.

Since the reunion.  The U.S. Code, Title 4, Chapter 1, Sections 4 and 9 clarifies the legislation and brings to say the same thing —that veterans are now permitted to render a hand salute when the U.S. flag is raised and lowered, passes in review, during the Pledge of Allegiance, and during the playing of the National Anthem.

“SO”

“STAND AND SALUTE” whenever the national anthem is played or the colors are paraded. Do it whether covered or not.

Until next time--------

God Bless
