2006 REUNION QUILT PROJECT

The enthusiastic reception of the quilts at previous reunions has motivated us to undertake at least one more project. Anyone who has an interest in quilting is encouraged to participate. These are the basic instructions.

1.
SIZE:  All blocks must be 12 1/2 inches by 12 1/2 inches which allows for a 1/4 inch seam allowance when joining the blocks together to form the quilt.
2.
FABRIC:  All fabric must be good quality, 100% cotton. Please use the best quality you can afford.
3.
PATTERN:  Please use any traditional; star pattern-- either pieced or appliquéd.
4.
COLORS:  To give the finished quilt a uniform look, each square must include red, white, and blue or a print containing these colors. Other colors may be incorporated as appropriate to the pattern.
5
.  PRE-WASH:  All fabric should be pre-washed for color fastness. If you have any doubt that it is color fast, soak in white vinegar and then wash until the water is clear. (RECOMMENDATION -- do not buy any red fabric at Wal-Mart.)
6.
YES:  You can make more than one block.
7. SUBMISSION DEADLINE:
All blocks must be received by February 1, 2006 to allow time to assemble and finish the quilt.
8.  MAIL Blocks to:
Norma Gibbons, 12 Glenbarr Circle, Bella Vista, AR 72715-4912

"THIS IS YOUR FINAL CONTROLLER"

Hi gang. Due to our vacationing in Japan during the month of May, I am writing this column in April, so I may be behind some events upon our return.  To date our organization remains vibrant.  Secretary Fred Scott has informed me that he has been in receipt of new memberships and many renewals.  It is truly rewarding to realize that the Association is maintaining a respectable membership, but I again emphasize the fact that there are many eligible shipmates throughout the country whom need to be made aware of our reunion organization.  Please take the time to solicit those individuals you may be in contact with to come on board!
I have not received any communication from you, the membership, as to proposals/ideas that could be initiated for the 2006 Minneapolis reunion.  This leaves me to believe that the members in attendance at the Norfolk event were, overall, satisfied with what was delivered.  As I have previously mentioned, hotel arrangements for 2006 in Minneapolis   will be very similar and hopefully receptive to all participants.
This will be a first for our reunion visiting this part of the good ole USA.
For those of you that intend to do some sightseeing before or after the Minneapolis event, I strongly encourage heading north and experiencing the drive along Lake Superior or other destinations within the state.   Take advantage of the many experiences that can be found in the "Land of Ten Thousand Lakes."  A fairly short drive east, crossing the Minnesota state line, another beautiful vista, the Wisconsin Dells.   Also, the Black Hills of South Dakota is just a one day drive west of Minneapolis.  As you can see, your time can really be filled enjoying this part of the country.
Enjoy the summer months wherever you may be!

"Health and Happiness Always."
Larry K. Lohse
